Meet Black Swan: From Broodmare to Star Performer

Every great equestrian partnership has a story, and Siri's journey with Black Swan is nothing short of extraordinary. Originally a $10 broodmare, Black Swan was far from the typical candidate for a performance horse. Yet, under Siri's patient and compassionate training, she has transformed into a remarkable performer, executing complex tricks that are unparalleled in Australia.

Their bond goes beyond training; Black Swan is Siri's best friend and trusted partner. Together, they demonstrate the power of trust, understanding, and mutual respect in the equestrian world.

Meet Firefly: Economy Sized

In the words of Siri's dear friend Kat, "That pony ain't right."

And she's really not.

RHV Firefly is a Quarter Horse / Thoroughbred cross, and was the first horse to be rescued from a kill pen by Melanie and Mattie Kane of Rehoming Horses Victoria.

Bought by Siri's brother George Christie, who realised upon arriving home with Firefly what a ... unique horse he had purchased after she repeatedly broke into an empty aviary, kicked a hapless wombat over the paddock fence, jumped onto a six foot high concrete water tank to have nap, hunted ducks on the dam like a furry submarine, and got into a fight with a kangaroo that had unwisely jumped into her paddock. The kangaroo fared better than the wombat and Firefly required five layers of stitches to a defence wound from the kangaroo's claw to her chest.

When Firefly was six years old George gave her to Siri as it was clear she was going to be too small for George to ride.

Siri got her started under saddle and gave her a full trick education, but felt she was just too strange in her temperament to be a show horse, so she found what she believed was a good home in a local rider and leased her to this woman. Unfortunately this person did not take good care of her, so when she abandoned her at an agistment property George and Siri took her back in.

Siri is now resigned to her fate as Firefly's human, and if pressed may admit she has become very fond of the exceptionally strange pony.

Surprisingly, Firefly took to performing like a duck to water (not one of the ducks she hunted on the Pakenham dam fortunately) and has formed an unexpected bond with her paddock mate the Black Swan, who does not generally like other horses.

Siri is often heard to say of Firefly, "I train her, I don't pretend to explain her."

Meet Rainbow: Demon Goat

Rainbow arrived at Kiltie Park as a three day old foal, a Stock Horse/Waler crossbred, and Siri instantly fell in love with her.
Rainbow and her mother belonged to Siri's foster mother, and, seeing how enchanted Siri was with the tiny foal, she very generously gifted her to Siri.

It has not been an easy road.

Rainbow has a difficult and capricious temperament, and Siri was thrown many times training her to accept a rider.

Rainbow is also extremely accident prone, and, despite always being paddocked with well maintained fencing, has injured her back legs in the wire several times - including her most recent adventure earlier this year, when she degloved the front of her right hock, which required 2 surgeries to save her life.

Despite these setbacks, Siri and Rainbow have achieved several lofty goals together, including free riding and difficult elements at liberty including piaffe, Spanish walk, bow, cabre, and one tempi changes.

The bond forged from their difficult times shines through and they are ready to wow and enchant crowds together.
